Why Get a Mentor?

Every young person has something special inside them—sometimes they just need someone to help them see it.

Life can feel overwhelming. School, friendships, and figuring out the future can be a lot to carry. Having a trusted adult—someone who listens, encourages, and truly cares—can make all the difference.

A mentor is that person…
Someone who shows up.
Someone who believes in you.
Someone who reminds you that you matter.

Overview of the Program

Being a mentee means having someone in your corner—someone who shows up, listens, and supports you as you grow.

At Crawford County Mentors, students in grades 6–12 are matched with caring adult mentors from our community. This relationship is built on trust, encouragement, and simply spending time together. We stay involved throughout the entire process—checking in, offering support, and making sure both you and your family feel comfortable and confident.

What to Expect

  • Meet with your mentor about once a week

  • Talk about school, goals, and life

  • Spend time doing simple activities together

  • Build a positive, supportive relationship with a trusted adult

There’s no pressure to be perfect—just come as you are.

The Process

Getting started is simple, and we guide you every step of the way:

Four colored circles with numbers: a yellow circle with '1', a pink circle, a light blue circle, and a dark blue circle.

Step 1: Apply

A parent or guardian completes a short application.

Four colorful circles arranged in a row with the number 2 in a large pink circle in the center.

Step 2: Meet with Us

We’ll connect with you and your parent/guardian to learn more about you and answer any questions.

A series of four colored circles, with the largest blue circle featuring a white number 3 in the center.

Step 3: Training & Matching

You’ll attend a short training, and then we carefully match you with a mentor who fits your personality and interests.

Four colored circles in a row: yellow, pink, blue, and dark teal with a white number 4 inside.

Step 4: Start your Match

You’ll meet your mentor and begin building a connection that can grow over time.

Get Started

Sometimes, all it takes is one person to listen, to encourage, and to believe in you.

You are not alone—and you don’t have to figure everything out by yourself. If you feel like your child could benefit from that kind of support—or if you’re a student who just needs someone in your corner—we’re here.

Safety and Support:

We understand that trusting someone new with your child—or stepping into a new relationship—can feel like a big step. That’s why we’ve built Crawford County Mentors with safety, care, and support at the center of everything we do.

Every mentor is carefully screened through an application, personal references are interviewed, an in-person interview with each mentor is conducted, and a BCI/FBI background check is required for each mentor. They also complete training to ensure they understand how to build healthy, appropriate, and respectful relationships with youth.

But our support doesn’t stop there.

We stay actively involved in every match. Our team checks in regularly with mentors, mentees, and parents/guardians to make sure everyone feels comfortable, heard, and supported. If questions or concerns ever come up, you will always have someone to call—we are here to listen and help.

Parents and guardians are an important part of this journey. We encourage open communication and involvement so you always know what’s happening and feel confident in your child’s experience.

You can expect:

  • Thoughtful, well-matched pairings

  • Ongoing communication and check-ins

  • Clear guidelines to keep relationships safe and appropriate

  • A team that is present, responsive, and truly cares

We take the trust you place in us seriously.

Your child’s safety matters. Your peace of mind matters. And we are here every step of the way.
