Why Become a Mentor?

Mentoring for Growth, Confidence, and Community Impact
This program is built on a simple but powerful belief: when caring, dependable adults invest in the lives of young people, the entire community grows stronger.

Mentors can gain:

  • Deeper community connection

  • Enhanced communication skills

  • Better understanding of the issues that face youth today

  • A sense of achievement

Overview of the Program

Mentoring is simple—it’s about showing up, listening, and being someone a young person can count on.

At Crawford County Mentors, we connect caring adults with students in grades 6–12 who need encouragement, guidance, and a steady presence. You don’t need special experience—just a willingness to build a positive relationship.

What to Expect

  • Spend about 1 hour per week with your mentee

  • Talk, share experiences, and do simple activities together

  • Be consistent and supportive

Safety and Support:

At Crawford County Mentors, nothing matters more than the safety and well-being of our youth, mentors, and families.

From the very beginning, we take thoughtful steps to create a program that is both safe and supportive. Every mentor completes an application, interview, and background check, along with training that prepares them to build healthy, appropriate relationships. We don’t rush the process—because every match matters.

But safety doesn’t stop once a match is made.

We stay connected every step of the way. Our team regularly checks in with mentors, mentees, and families to offer guidance, answer questions, and make sure everyone feels comfortable and supported. Parents and guardians are an important part of the relationship, and we encourage open communication so everyone stays informed and involved.

Mentors are never expected to handle challenges alone. Whether it’s a simple question or a concern, we are here—ready to listen, guide, and step in when needed.

We’ve built this program with care, intention, and a deep respect for the trust families place in us.

You are not alone in this work—and neither is your mentee.
